Editor’s note:

I believe that the greatest luxury in my life—anyone’s life, really—is choice. Faced with endless options, from what to eat to who to spend time with to where to go, those of us who are fortunate and privileged enough have the opportunity to choose what best suits us. If you look at it through that lens, life on the road is about as luxurious as it gets. Every day holds an abundance of choices, and although this can sometimes be exhausting (please, someone, decide for me where I’ll sleep tonight!), it also sets us up for a personally tailored adventure—one that prioritizes the things that bring us joy.

Some of us love to hike while others love museums; camp cooking is some road-trippers’ jam, but others travel to try local cuisine at every destination. And the beauty of this is that you can choose your own adventure.

No traveler is the same, so, in this issue of ROVA, we bring you a range of stories to suit everyone. Beach bums, come with us on a coastal odyssey, calling into some of the best sandy spots in the country; literature lovers, learn about how reading books can enhance your travel experience; fauna fiends, discover some of America’s most interesting and unique creatures on a whirlwind wildlife tour of the country; and gear junkies, find out more about the benefits of trailers and towable RVs when compared to motorized home-on-wheels options.

Our intrepid nomads, as always, serve up a variety of personal stories and travel tips. Jess Carolan shares the lessons that she has learned through full-time solo travel; Clinton Harris gets stranded in the Cascades of the Pacific Northwest; Ching Fu discovers the lesser-known gems of Montana; and Adam Hull takes a spontaneous two-day adventure tour of Massachusetts.
